Wow, can you believe we made it through the holiday season? Itās hard to fathom how hundreds of dollars can just disappear in a flurry of wrapping paper within minutes. But the look of surprise on loved onesā faces makes it all worthwhile.
Now, as we shift our focus from holiday cheer to Valentineās Day, letās take a little trip back in time. Did you know that Valentineās Day, while now celebrated as a romantic holiday, actually dates back to 1415? According to MSN, the first recorded valentine was sent by Charles, Duke of Orleans, while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. Can you believe it? A former prince, with a beautiful wife he would never see again, was writing poetry from his cell! Hereās a snippet of his heartfelt message:
I am already sick of love,My very gentle Valentine,Since for me you were born too late,And I for you was born too soon...
A bit dramatic, right? But such is the way of love! Interestingly, Valentineās Day also coincides with the beginning of bird mating season, which makes sense for celebrating love.
In America, the tradition of exchanging gifts really took off around the 1840s, according to the History Channel. And hereās a fun fact: we send about 145 million Valentineās Day cards each year! With roughly 332.4 million people in the U.S. (as of 2022), that leaves about 187.4 million people without a valentine. Why not help change that?
Iām excited to announce my new Valentineās Day line, perfect for spreading love! Explore my creations and find something special to share with your loved onesāor maybe treat yourself!
See you in the digital streets!
Much love,
Heather
